Policy Platforms

YWCA Knoxville and the Tennessee Valley monitors policy and legislation throughout the year that impacts our mission or our clients at local, state, and federal levels. With a six-county service area, YWCA’s state-wide advocacy efforts often have the most impact. In partnership with sister YWCAs across the region and country and advocacy and policy groups, YWCA Knoxville and the Tennessee Valley uses its history of excellence and expertise to leverage support or concern for specific pieces of legislation or local policy process.

In 2020, the agency will focus on the following priorities with a clear connection to our mission, client, and community wellbeing:

  • Legislation and policies based on systemic racism

  • Educational disparities

  • Appropriations for prevention programming

  • Legislation and policies that impact victims and survivors of gender-based violence

Throughout state and federal legislative sessions we’ll update you about what legislation and policy we’re tracking, our stance on it and how we arrived at that position, and action you can take to promote or discourage legislation and policies.
