
after-school enrichment program
The Phyllis Wheatley Center is located in East Knoxville two blocks from Vine Middle School. The after school program offers a safe, nurturing, structured and adult supervised program for middle-school-age children at no cost. Hours of operation are 3:00 to 6:00 pm daily during the school year.
Activities are designed to enhance academic performance, self-esteem, healthy choices and physical and emotional well-being.
The After-School Enrichment Program includes:
- Nutritious snacks
- Academic tutors
- Game room
- Exercise activities
- Field trips
- Sporting activities
- Computer classes
- Cooking classes and gardening
- Fitness classes: Dance, Karate and Capoeira
- Arts and crafts
- Weight lifting
- Guy/Girl power mentoring groups
- Life skills
- Drug and alcohol education
- Pregnancy prevention classes

This program is funded by the Office of Minority Health, the United Way of Greater Knoxville, and donations from foundations and individuals.
